Petal Three, Worksheet #1: Story 5
Title: Design Portfolio
During the global pandemic, I decided to take on a 6 month intensive UX design bootcamp, UX Academy, through Designlab. I did not know what I was getting myself into, but I was excited to learn a new skill and tap into my creative capabilities.
At the end of the course, the last assignment was to build a design portfolio. My portfolio, which I continue to iterate on, can be found here: https://www.uxbymr.com/.
The first obstacle I had to face was learning how to build a website. I decided to use Webflow as my design tool. I did this by completing a 21 day portfolio challenge provided by Webflow on their Youtube channel. After this I iterated on my portfolio with my new found knowledge of the basics of Webflow.
Steps involved:
- Learn Webflow.
- Choose a domain.
- Design home, or landing, page.
- Design three different case studies showing the work I had done.
- Write stories about my process and thinking for each one.
- Design about page, featuring a little bit about me, my current interests, and creations.
- Iterate.
One of my favorite parts of this process was getting to share the creative work that I have done. I was able to present film photos I’ve shot, mixes I’ve recorded, and a clip from a film I enjoyed watching.
As a result I got to create a work of art that doubles as a portfolio. I was able to use some of the art I had created in the past and share it with others. I also, again, discovered that I could learn a new tool, and create something I at times felt would be close to impossible.
